THE COMPANY

Founded in 1890 by Carl Gunderloch, this family-run winery is a true benchmark for the finest German Rieslings and is considered one of the best in Rheinhessen. Located on the steep red slopes of the Roter Hang, in the northernmost part of the region, the unique terroir of the Grand Cru Rothenberg vineyards – a family monopoly, together with Pettenthal and Hipping – produces high-quality grapes. After taking over from his parents Fritz and Agnes in 2014, Johannes Hasselbach, a sixth-generation winemaker, manages and cares for the family’s 24 hectares. Organic and sustainable grape cultivation and low-intervention winemaking come together under his talent and vision. The wines offer unparalleled elegance, complexity and textural depth, vintage after vintage, while the Crus, worthy of ageing for years, are deeply structured yet refreshing and seductive.
